Despite the internet, searching and finding information across the massive ‘ocean’ of the net was an onerous and very difficult task. Andy Bechtolsheim was facing this problem and believed that a good search engine was essential to tackle the issues, leading him to invest in Google. He however, clearly underestimated the potential of the business model of this giant company.
The year saw Andy investing $100K, translating to a 1.1% stake in Google, during the days of the IPO. In March 2010, on the tenth day of the month, Forbes estimated the value of the investment at $1.7B! Andy believes that investing in Google was the best business decision he has ever made in his life.
